DESCRIPTION: An attractive gall usually found in groups and caused by a small midge. Each gall is a swollen flower bud and contains up to several small jumping larvae that are white at first before becoming more orange. These galled buds will not open and become hollow with age. DISTRIBUTION: Decidedly uncommon and quite difficult to locate although it is a widespread species. HABITAT: Found on the buds of Tufted Vetch. |
